Wednesday, 18th October is World Menopause Day and so I thought this would be a good time to share with you something I’ve come across as a well-being coach, which is thinking you’re experiencing burnout when it could be the Menopause!
For example…….
- Are you a woman who is 45 or over?
- Are you tired all the time?
- Are you overwhelmed at work and struggling to keep it all together?
Then, you could be suffering from burnout – but it could be the Menopause – or it could be both!
Burnout and Menopause – The Symptoms are very similar.
Did you know that many of the burnout symptoms are similar to the symptoms of menopause, even though the cause is different, such as: –
- Emotionally drained.
- Physically fatigued.
- Brain fog
- Memory problems
- Sleep issues
- Low mood or feeling irritable.
- Anxiety
- Bursting into tears unexpectedly
You may find when you’re burnt out that you lose interest in sex. This can also happen when you’re going through the menopause.
The Main Symptom Difference Between Burnout and Menopause
The one main symptom of the menopause which is NOT a symptom of burnout is hot flushes (or hot flashes). But, if you’re experiencing hot flushes, this doesn’t mean you aren’t experiencing burnout too, as I mentioned earlier!
What should you do if you’re not sure if what you’re going through is burnout, the menopause – or both?
If you’re experiencing the symptoms described previously – don’t suffer in silence.
Speak to your GP, or other health care provider and ask them about it. They may run tests to check your hormone levels to see if you’re going through the menopause.
To find out if it could be burnout, you can take my free burnout quiz.
What next?
If you’re burnt out, and if you’re also going through the menopause, you can book a free call with me to discuss what you’re going through and to find out about what to do next to start to get your spark back.
If you’re menopausal, but not burnt out, speak to your GP or health care provider, about the options available to you.
I’m personally a fan of supplements to support my well-being. I recently met Mel, an inspiring woman who, due to her own challenges going through the menopause, has created a supplement for the Menopause, with the help of a nutritionist.
